Heatherton VicRoads, at 77 Corporate Drive, Heatherton. It is about 6.1 kilometres north of Parkdale, roughly fourteen minutes inland, and it is where your driving instructor will prepare you and where your drive test is booked.

Because the route runs inland across the arterials rather than up along the bay, so there is a set of signals every kilometre or so. The distance is short and the trip is not, which is the reason we book drive test preparation to start at the office.

Yes for ordinary learner driving lessons, and pickup from home, work or Parkdale station is completely normal. For drive test preparation, fourteen minutes each way is close to half of a 60 minute driving lesson. Meeting your driving instructor at Heatherton VicRoads, or booking a 90 minute driving lesson, is how that time gets protected.

Yes. The crossing was removed and Parkdale station rebuilt in 2024, so Parkers Road now runs through instead of stopping at boom gates. The road flows considerably better, which also means the gaps you are judging arrive faster than they used to. We drive the current layout with you rather than assume you remember the old one.

In the residential streets between Como Parade and Warren Road. They are quiet, gridded and have room to stop, which is what a first driving lesson needs. Parkdale is narrow, so those streets are a minute or two from wherever you live.

Eventually, and not at the start. When you are ready we use the Nepean Highway service roads first, which give you the road without the through traffic and are about the gentlest introduction to a busy road we have anywhere. The highway itself follows, with its lanes and its turns across traffic.

Busier than it looks, and useful for that reason. The shops sit on both sides of the railway, so there are parked cars, people crossing and vehicles pulling out throughout the day. Speeds are low, which makes it a lesson in reading ahead rather than a test of nerve.

It is, and in both seasons. Beach Road in July and Beach Road in January are effectively two different roads, with far more cyclists, pedestrians and parked cars in summer. Your drive test does not pick the quiet version, so we teach the busy one on purpose.

Yes, and from Parkdale it is the arrangement we would suggest. The driving lesson runs immediately before the drive test on the roads the testing officers use, so you are warmed up on them rather than arriving after a fourteen minute drive and starting cold. It is also the best price we offer.

Usually not the driving. It is the Victorian road rules first, then the local habits: joining and leaving a service road, giving way at unmarked intersections, and the speed changes along Nepean Highway. Your drive test is at Heatherton VicRoads and we prepare you on the roads around it.

It is a well balanced one. Quiet residential streets, a shopping strip, service roads that work as a halfway step, a highway and a foreshore road all sit within a narrow strip of suburb, so you never have to drive anywhere to find the next step up. The fourteen minutes to the testing office is the part that needs planning.

The residential streets have ordinary kerbside parking without heavy traffic, which is where reverse parallel parking should start. Como Parade is the harder version, with traffic behind you and people about, and the foreshore car parks in summer are harder again. We work through them in that order.
