Before You Drive There

Not every VicRoads office conducts drive tests. Several offices across Melbourne are open and handle licence renewals, registration and everything else, but they do not run drive tests at all. If you are new to the area or new to Australia, the office closest to home is a reasonable guess and it is often the wrong one. The offices that do not test are listed further down this page, along with where you go instead.

VicRoads Offices That Do Not Conduct Drive Tests

These offices are open and running. They handle licence renewals, registration, permits and everything else you would normally go to VicRoads for. What they do not do is conduct drive tests. If one of them is your nearest office, this is where you will actually sit your test.

Broadmeadows

The Broadmeadows office does not conduct drive tests. Learner drivers in Broadmeadows and the surrounding suburbs test at Coolaroo VicRoads, about 4.8 kilometres away, roughly 8 minutes up the road.

Sunshine

The Sunshine office does not conduct drive tests. Learner drivers in Sunshine, Sunshine North and Sunshine West test at Deer Park VicRoads, about 7.5 kilometres away, around 12 minutes.

Hoppers Crossing

The Hoppers Crossing office does not conduct drive tests. Learner drivers there, and across Tarneit and Point Cook, test at Werribee VicRoads, about 6 kilometres away, roughly 12 minutes.

Ringwood

This one surprises people, because both offices are in Ringwood. The Ringwood office does not conduct drive tests. You test at Mitcham VicRoads, on Heatherdale Road in Ringwood, about 3.7 kilometres away. It is named after Mitcham but it is not in the suburb of Mitcham, so follow the road name rather than the office name.

The Burwood East office does not conduct drive tests. Learner drivers in Burwood and Burwood East test at Mitcham VicRoads, on Heatherdale Road in Ringwood.

Dandenong

The Dandenong office does not conduct drive tests. Learner drivers in Dandenong test at Heatherton VicRoads, about 14.7 kilometres away and roughly 27 minutes, which is the one we would suggest. Pakenham East VicRoads is the other option.

Exhibition Street, Melbourne

The VicRoads office on Exhibition Street in the city does not conduct drive tests. If you live in the CBD, Southbank, Docklands, Parkville, North Melbourne, East Melbourne, West Melbourne or South Melbourne, you test at Carlton VicRoads. Everyone meets there.

These offices have not closed and they have not moved. They are open for everything else VicRoads does, so if you need one for a licence renewal or registration, go ahead. The drive test is the one thing they do not handle.
