It is the most demanding road in Mentone and the most useful. It cuts through the middle of the suburb, multi-lane and quick, so it asks for lane discipline and gaps chosen well ahead. It is also the closest local match to the conditions around Heatherton VicRoads.

The residential streets away from the highway and the shops. Local traffic, ordinary blocks, and enough rise from the beach that a little gradient control comes in early without anyone arranging it.

It is the natural step up from the side streets. Kerbside parking, delivery vehicles stopped where they should not be and people crossing between cars, all at low speed. Busy enough to be useful and slow enough to think in.

In summer and at weekends, yes. Traffic near the foreshore behaves differently from ordinary traffic, with cars slowing without warning and parking filling up. It is worth driving deliberately once the basics are solid, because reading what other people are about to do is a real skill.
