The traffic through Ocean Grove in January is nothing like the traffic in July, with far more pedestrians, more parked cars and a lot of drivers who do not know the roads. Your drive test does not choose the quiet version, so we teach both.

In the residential streets back from the foreshore. They are wide, quiet for most of the year and laid out simply, which is close to ideal for a first driving lesson. There is a lot of that kind of street here, so the early driving lessons rarely need to leave your own part of town.

The residential streets are excellent for a beginner and the main street is genuinely demanding once you are ready. The twenty three minutes to the office is the part we plan around rather than pretend away.

The residential streets have ordinary kerbside parking and light traffic through most of the year, which is where reverse parallel parking should start. The Marketplace on Shell Road covers bay parking and reversing out with someone waiting, and The Terrace is the angle parking version, which is a different skill again.
