Speed judgement and road position. Higher limits, corners that close up without warning, gravel shoulders and long empty stretches mean you learn to read the road rather than follow a painted line. That makes town driving easier afterwards rather than harder.

Both are a normal part of driving out here rather than something to dread. A tractor doing thirty on a hundred road, and kangaroos near dawn and dusk, are handled the same way: look a long way ahead, ease off early, and do not swerve.

It is a calm place to start and a long way from where you finish. Quiet township streets and real country roads are both genuinely useful, and the run south supplies the suburban driving the town has none of. The distance is the one thing that has to be planned around properly.

The township streets have kerbside parking with very little traffic, which is the right place for reverse parallel parking to start. The shops on the main street give you the harder version, with someone waiting, and the larger car parks nearer Bundoora cover bay parking.
