No. Broadmeadows VicRoads does not conduct drive tests. The office is open and still handles other VicRoads business, so it is worth knowing it is there, but no drive test is booked or sat at it. Learners around Broadmeadows test at Coolaroo VicRoads instead, which is only a few minutes further on.

The same answer. Essendon Fields does not conduct drive tests either, although it is open for other VicRoads business. It catches the attention of people right across the Essendon and Airport West side of the north, because it is the nearest office to a great many of them. Those suburbs test at Coolaroo VicRoads, or at Carlton VicRoads where the distances send them there.

No, they go west. Keilor, Keilor East, Keilor Downs, Kealba and St Albans all test at Deer Park VicRoads rather than at either northern office. It is one of the few places where the obvious geography and the actual catchment part company, so it is worth checking your own suburb page.

It depends entirely on where you start. From the middle of the north it is about 6.4 kilometres, roughly eleven minutes, but from Glenroy it is far less and from Craigieburn or Donnybrook considerably more. Each suburb page carries its own distance rather than an average.

In the inner north, yes. Coburg, Preston and the suburbs around them have tram routes running through them, and that means tram stops, knowing when you may pass and sometimes sharing a lane. Further out there are none at all. It is one of the bigger differences between one end of the north and the other.

Honestly, most of it is good. The post-war grids through Glenroy, Fawkner and Reservoir give beginners quiet wide streets, and the newer estates further out give open corners and roundabouts. The arterials that follow are genuinely demanding, so learners from the north tend to be comfortable on multi-lane roads.

Yes, and across the north it is the arrangement that makes the most sense, particularly from the outer suburbs. The driving lesson runs immediately before the drive test on the roads the testing officers use, so a long drive does not sit between your preparation and your drive test.
