Yes, for ordinary driving lessons. Home, work or McKinnon station all work. For drive test preparation we would suggest meeting at Heatherton VicRoads instead, or booking a 90 minute driving lesson, because at 18 minutes each way the travel takes better than half of a 60 minute booking.

It did. The crossing came out in 2016 and the rail now runs in a trench beneath the road, so traffic flows through instead of banking up behind boom gates. It is easier driving overall, and it does mean the gaps you are judging come round faster than they used to.

They are the middle step between the quiet streets and the bigger arterials. Both carry steadier traffic and bring turns across it, without the parking and pedestrian activity of the shopping strip.

On the residential streets away from the station, where the gaps between parked cars are real and there is time to take. Once that is solid, the parking on the shopping strip is the busier version and worth doing before test day.
