For the first driving lessons it is close to ideal, and it does not stay useful for long. New wide roads with clear markings, long sightlines and almost no traffic give a complete beginner room to make a mistake and correct it. What the estate has none of is traffic, and the drive test is conducted in traffic, so we move into Werribee earlier than we would from an established suburb.

It is worth planning around rather than worrying about. Trucks and trades vehicles come and go through the estate and a street that was quiet last month may have a build on it now, so we check the route rather than assume it. Learning to expect the unexpected is not a bad habit to pick up early.

East into Werribee, where roundabouts, shopping traffic, parked cars and pedestrians all arrive together. That is the driving the test is actually conducted in, and it is only a few minutes away, which is the advantage of being this close to the office.

Partly here and mostly in Werribee. The estate has kerbs but not always long lines of parked cars, and it is the real gap between two vehicles that the drive test asks you to judge. Your driving instructor uses the older streets nearer the office for that.
