It is a naming quirk rather than a mistake, and it surprises people on test day. The office VicRoads calls Mitcham is at 93A Heatherdale Road, Ringwood. If you put Mitcham the suburb into your navigation you will arrive somewhere else, so use the road and the number instead.

About 14.2 kilometres, or roughly 17 minutes in ordinary traffic heading north west. Where you start in Knoxfield moves that a little, so treat it as a guide.

Yes, for ordinary driving lessons. For drive test preparation we would suggest meeting at the office on Heatherdale Road instead, or booking a 90 minute driving lesson, because at 17 minutes each way the travel takes better than half of a 60 minute booking.

It is a feature of the suburb and a useful one once you are ready. The commercial pocket brings heavy vehicles onto local roads through the day, so you learn early to stay out of their blind spots and leave them room to turn. We keep first driving lessons clear of it.

On the residential streets where cars are parked along the kerb in a normal line. The commercial roads have plenty of space and none of the judgement a drive test asks for, so we use the housing side of the suburb for that.

Automatic. Driving lessons in Knoxfield are in a small dual-control automatic, and that is also the car you would sit the Mitcham VicRoads drive test in if your package includes it. An automatic licence covers you for automatic cars, which is what most people in Melbourne drive now.
