Yes, for ordinary driving lessons. Home, work or Hughesdale station all work. For drive test preparation we would suggest meeting at Heatherton VicRoads instead, or booking a 90 minute driving lesson, because at 14 minutes each way the travel takes about half of a 60 minute booking.

There is, though it works differently from a big suburb. Hughesdale is about two square kilometres with four busy roads around it, so the quiet streets are limited and the demanding driving is a block or two away. We make proper use of the interior streets early and then move onto the arterials sooner than we would elsewhere, which suits the drive test rather than working against it.

It did. With the line above the streets, roads that used to stop at boom gates now run underneath without interruption, so traffic moves through the middle of the suburb more freely than it once did. Easier driving overall, and it does mean gaps arrive faster than long-time locals may expect.

The interior residential streets away from the boundary roads. Quiet, with cars parked along the kerb so judgement of space starts early. There is a limited amount of it, so we use it deliberately rather than assuming it will always be available.

It is the most demanding road on Hughesdale's boundary. Trams, several lanes and a great deal of traffic moving east to west, so lane discipline and turns planned well ahead are not optional. It is not a first driving lesson road, and by the time you meet it you will be ready.

Yes. Hughesdale station is a common meeting point for driving lessons, along with home and work. It suits anyone travelling in for a driving lesson rather than starting from a Hughesdale address. For drive test preparation we would still suggest Heatherton VicRoads instead.

On the interior residential streets, where cars are parked along the kerb in a normal line and the traffic is local. The parking near the station and the shops is the busier version and worth doing once the manoeuvre is solid.

Automatic. Driving lessons in Hughesdale are in a small dual-control automatic, and that is also the car you would sit the Heatherton VicRoads drive test in if your package includes it. An automatic licence covers you for automatic cars, which is what most people in Melbourne drive now.
