No, and it is the single most common assumption we correct on this side of Melbourne. Broadmeadows VicRoads is closer to Glenroy than Coolaroo is, and it does not conduct drive tests. It is still open for other business, so it has not gone anywhere, but your drive test happens at Coolaroo VicRoads. Worth knowing before you book anything.

About 5.8 kilometres, or roughly nine minutes in ordinary traffic heading north. That puts Glenroy inside the ten minute mark, so travel is not much of an issue for ordinary driving lessons.

Yes. Home, work or Glenroy station all work, and at nine minutes from the office the travel is easily managed. For drive test preparation we would still suggest meeting at Coolaroo VicRoads so the full hour goes on the roads you will be assessed on.

It did, and noticeably. The rail now runs under Glenroy Road and there are signals where Glenroy Road, Wheatsheaf Road and Hartington Street meet. Traffic flows through instead of banking up behind boom gates, which is easier driving overall, and it does mean the gaps you are judging come round faster than they used to.

The residential streets back from the main roads, on the blocks off West Street and Widford Street. Quiet, gridded and unhurried, with enough parked cars to start building judgement of space.

Yes, once the quieter streets are comfortable. Pascoe Vale Road is the main arterial through this part of the north, multi-lane and busy, so it asks for lane discipline and turns set up well ahead. It also runs most of the way to Coolaroo VicRoads, which makes it useful practice twice over.

Yes. Glenroy station is a common meeting point for driving lessons, along with home and work. It suits anyone travelling in for a driving lesson rather than starting from a Glenroy address. For drive test preparation we would still suggest Coolaroo VicRoads instead.

On the residential streets off West Street and Widford Street, where cars are parked along the kerb in a normal line and there is time to take. Once that is solid, the parking closer to the shops is the busier version and worth doing before test day.

Automatic. Driving lessons in Glenroy are in a small dual-control automatic, and that is also the car you would sit the Coolaroo VicRoads drive test in if your package includes it. An automatic licence covers you for automatic cars, which is what most people in Melbourne drive now. If you specifically need manual, tell us when you book and we will give you an honest answer on whether we can cover it.

It is Victorian road rules, and around here it is arterials and signalised intersections that ask you to commit early.
